We are taking a closer look at Beretania, Young and King Street to see what can be done to make the neighborhood safer for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as, how these streets can move more people on bus.
Planning techniques we suggest are:
- Creating pedestrian islands in order to decrease the distance of crosswalks for pedestrians.
- Creating a two-way cycle track on King Street, stretching from Waialae Ave to Downtown and beyond in order to provide a place for cyclists to ride without fear.
- Improving bus stops to provide proper shelter, seating and pre-pay stations.
- Creating a bus only lane in order to increase the speed of buses.
Below is a video created from our last research trip to Europe where you can see multiple options for bicycle ways, including cycle tracks.
