We pledge to make it easier for you to walk, bike and take the bus if you pledge to step out of your car.
The chicken or the egg?
That’s the issue we’re dealing with when it comes to transportation on Oahu. There aren’t very many cyclists on the road because many people feel the roads are too dangerous. The low number of cyclists makes it difficult for city officials to justify spending tax dollars on bicycle lanes and better infrastructure. This downward spiral leads us down a road to disaster.
We need your help! Right now, you may think it’s too dangerous or too inconvenient to ride a bike, walk, or catch the bus, and we understand. Many people feel the same way as you. We know your first choice may be to go for your car keys but we want to make it easier for you not to. We need to hear your voice. We need to know that when things change and bicycle lanes are put in, sidewalks are widened and well lit, buses come on time and more frequently, you will step out of your car and participate in these types of transportation that are a bit friendlier for our communities. We need to hear that you want change. If you don’t need it or want it, then there’s really no reason to act.
Tell us your reason for not walking, riding a bicycle or taking public transit and we pledge to fix the problem. However, we need you to pledge to step out of the car once the change is made. If you’re brave enough to take the pledge, leave your comment below and share this page on any of your favorite social network sites. Together we can make our roads safer for everyone.
